Student Alumni Metontorship Program

Student Alumni Mentorship Programme, (SAM) is a program  within the community of BIT Mesra students of past and current batches, with the following primary objective:

1. To support and enhance the personal and professional development of tribal BITians throughout their four years stay at BIT by connecting them to their alumni network, providing constructive and positive interaction, formal/ informal guidance and networking opportunities.

2. To provide a meaningful opportunity for Alumni members to become more engaged within the larger BIT community for the purpose of giving back to the institute and professional networking

In this program the mentor and mentee would need to register to derive full potential of the program.

The program would be conducted by the the core team comprising of four Alumni members and 8 students (one male and one female from each of the current batch). As of now the Alumni core team members need to volunteer themselves as first come first basis, their availability and commitment to this program.

Once the registration is done core team will allot mentees to the registered mentors based on parameters like branch, higher studies aspirations, placement aspirations, common interests etc.
Once the mentor-mentee relationship is established it will run for six months which can be extended for another six months.

The pair will meet twice every month for at least one hour each (in person/video or voice call).

Responsibilities of the Mentor:
1. Guide the mentee towards academic success in BIT and career thereafter
2. Help the mentee in matters related to resume/CV, summers, placements etc.

Responsibilities of core team:
1. Solicit and match mentors and mentees on an annual basis
2. At the beginning of the annual cycle, provide a suggested set of discussion topics and a recommended number of meeting times per year.
3. Promote the program at regular JHABS/Phylum meetings
4. Create and provide an orientation session and materials to guide the relationship and to help clarify the expectations of both mentor and mentee

CAT Prep: Solid tips from 2016 CAT topper:

Common Admission Test (CAT) Prep

Solid tips from 2016 CAT topper:

1) Mock tests

Student generally focus on the content but this will only help them to get through 40-45 per cent of the preparation. The best way to prepare is by taking mock tests. This will give them an idea about the kind of questions they must attempt.

2) Revision

Students usually try to switch to a different book once they’re done with one. Sticking to the same book will help you a lot more as it gives you “depth”. Revising one material repeatedly will help you more than switching between three-four books.

3) Don’t panic

Understand that CAT is a simple paper. There is no need to panic because you are in control of those three hours. Just give your best attempt and stay calm.

I completely endorse the last point. CAT is a SIMPLE paper.
Practice and confidence in yourself will take you closer to realizing your dreams.
